The 19th century is when the Kpop industry began to grow with more companies forming more groups, especially YG, JYP, and SM Entertainment (currently nicknamed "The Big Three"). People saw the talents of their people and scouted them to train to debut in a group where they could all shine. For instance, Kpop hit a milestone when soloist, BoA, topped a Japan music chart in 2002, proving that Kpop can be enjoyed in other places besides Korea. There was diversity in the new idol groups's ethnicity--along with outstanding dance, rap, and singing talents. Artists--such as BoA, Rain, TVXQ, Big Bang, KARA, SNSD, and 2NE1--formed the new generation of K-pop artists in the 2000s, hitting milestones that the first generation could not. Many of these groups later become inspirations for the third generation to become stars and be successful in the entertainment world.
Many of these groups who debut in the 2000s currently are active, releasing music, and topping the music charts. Big Bang today is known as a very successful group which some international fans fall in love with first. Comparison to Kpop in 1992-1999:
